Car accidents happen every day and can happen at any time. A car accident can be a life changing experience in many ways. If you’re at fault it could lead to a lawsuit that could cost you a lot of money. It could cost you a lot in injuries.

While car accidents can’t always be preventive, you can help mitigate some of the consequences by doing a couple of things after the accident. Being prepared will always help you from making mistakes and keep you from forgetting things that can be important later.

Exchange insurance information to cover yourself. While it may be tempting to take a cash offer from the other person, remember that there can be injuries that you can’t feel yet. Sometimes injuries can take days or even weeks to feel. Or you might not even feel them at all. Be sure to see a doctor to help keep you from long term injuries that could be taken care of in the short term. If you take the cash and no other info, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Take pictures of all damage. This will help protect you in case of false claims. My wife was in an accident and the other person made a claim against her. It was a very minor bump with a barely visible dent in the other car. Luckily my wife took a photo of her car and the claim was dismissed. So protect yourself.

If you do get into an accident that causes injuries be sure to consult an attorney. You don’t want the injury that someone else caused to be financially draining to you. You may think the cost is expensive and a long drawn out process, but there are things like great settlement loans that can help get you by in the mean time.

While car accidents can be life changing, they don’t have to be. Learn how to cover yourself in case of an accident and it will help you in the long term.

I had a car accident and I believe it was third party’s fault. However, the third party and I have policy from the same insurance company. The legal insurance is same as well. What should I do to make sure that the insurance would act without interest conflict? If I use different legal firm, will it be better?

I was in a car accident six months ago. I had no breaks or fractures but I had whiplash and a spinal rotation. I had to go to the chiropractor for four months. Is there a guess on how much I am going to get during my settlement?

I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and I had to get an attorney. I am seeing a chiropractor for the back and neck pain. I was just wondering about the process and what are the average funds recovered. I had never been in a accident before so this is all really new to me.

I take my dog everywhere in the car with me, which has led me to worry, what happens to your dog if you get in a car accident? What happens to her if you’re unconcious but the dog is fine? What happens if your dog is hurt? Do they take her to the emergency vet? Is it your responsibility to get her to the vet if you’re fine? Is there an official policy for paramedics about this? Is there anything I can do to make sure my dog isn’t left to die?
I didn’t mean to seem like I’m freaking out, I just can’t find anyone who actually know what happens. Everyone I have asked says, “Good question… I assume they do something for the dog?” I want an answer from someone who knows exactly what happens, not just a guess.

The opening to my story is the MC watching herself and her friends get into a horrible car accident. She is the only one killed. Then 10 minutes later shes at home in her bed, only nobody can see her. She kinda sees how life is going on without her because of a death wish.

    Thanks.

I had a car accident and I just received a letter from the doctor describing my medical problem. It says: “there is all indication that this is secondary to the car accident”. What does it mean? Thank you very much!

I recently had a car accident. My 2007 $22,000 dollar Jeep has over $10,000 dollars in damages! Once my car is repaired I want to trade it in. Do I have to disclose the accident? Also, I talked with a dealership and they will not take it for trade because of the damages. How much should my insurance company owe me in diminished value?

I got into a car accident last night in Brooklyn on the East bound Belt Parkway. Two cars (a gold Chevy Trailblazer and a black 5series BMW) were trying to merge onto the highway that me and a White Nissan Murano were already on. I am behind the Nissan Murano on the highway and the BMW is behind the Trailblazer waiting to get on to the highway. The BMW decides that he doesn’t want to give the right of way to us (the people already on the highway), and cuts everyone off (the trailblazer, the Murano, and my 2001 Nissan Sentra). The Murano stops short and I slam into the back of him. My airbags deployed and my car is totaled. The Murano bumper has a crack in it (nothing major- probably because he had the bumper guard) and he might have some damage underneath his car (nothing visible but you never know). The BMW fled the scene and no one got a license plate number. The trailblazer did not hit anyone but has slight damage caused by the BMW that fled the scene. Yes I tried braking but it didn’t slow down enough in time. Everything happened within 10 seconds. I have several questions:

    1. Is there any way that I will not be found at fault? Like if an investigation is done and they find out that I had bad brakes?

    2. If they launch an investigation and find that my brakes were faulty would that change anything?

    3. Does anyone pay for the damage to my car? I only have liability coverage but maybe his insurance? Can I pay for full coverage now so that they will pay for my car?

    4. $3500 is what I paid for the car. The car will cost at least $3000 to fix. What should I do with the car if insurance doesn’t want to reimburse? I called a couple of junkyards and they told me around $150. I think that is too low-what about you? I also called a charity to see about donating it and they said that I could get a $300-500 tax credit when I file taxes for 2009. I heard bad things about that but only from 2 people so I really don’t know. Anyone know anything about that?

    5. How much do you think, in percentage, will my insurance go up?

    6. If I took the car and tried to do a trade-in, will they give me much for thfor it?

    7. Finally, I am in pain. My entire right side of my body hurts, from my neck to my ankle, including my lower back. Can I get a personal injury settlement? The towing people that came to the scene said that I can. I don’t know.

Final tidbits of information, I live and the accident took place in Brooklyn, NY. I am a 21 year old female. Car is registered and owned by me, all in my name. I had my license for 23 months, will be 2 years in June. I bought the car from some people that took me to an auction. Car was sold as is from the auction to the dealer that bought the car for me. But I am not sure if it is as is from the dealer to me?? I went to a dealer’s auction so I had to have a dealer buy and then buy from that dealer (for people that don’t know).
Okay so can you explain a little bit more BOB! You screwed!!!!! is okay but explain the reasoning behind it, provide more information, etc.

so in the end, it came down to the installment paymeny, where he has to pay $100 a week

his house mate said he left the country

what should i do ? the car got a lot of damages and cost a alot of money

any chance i can chase him ???
i called the cop…..but are they really going to be able to find him in his coutry ?

I will shorten this as much as possible.

Car accident about a week ago. I have no insurance.( i only drive my car like twice a month and didn’t want to pay when i wasn’t driving) No one got hurt but me and my car (completely totalled) and got towed. I haven’t gone to a doctor because i ‘m poor with no health insurance (of course).
I haven’t really done anything but panic? First accident I have ever had. The other car was MUCH bigger than mine and seemed to have had no damage.
Right after the accident i refused to go in the abulance to the hospital bc i know how much that would cost and asked the cop to take me home regardless of my injuries.
I panicked the second i got home and bought insurance from GIECO for my car. next day i realized that was probably fraud so i changed the coverage to my mom’s car bc she didn’t have insurance either.
I have a ticket for no insurance and failure to yield. Ticket didn’t specify a date, just said no earlier than 5 days but no later than 14 days the ticket was issued. which is any day this week.

I am unemployed at the time, 19 not going to school bc of no money. I do have savings for school i was living off of bc i haven’t been able to replace my last job (the place went out of business) but i’m sure all of the money i have left will disappear after all of this. idk if it helps with legal issues but I am in Utah.

First, what do i do about my car? what can i do? they towed it and i have card from the guy who towed it.

I looked it up and saw that people suggest that i call the other person’s insurance rep and set up a payment plan to pay for the damage BEFORE going to court. Should i do this???

I know I will get a fine for the accident and no insurance and probably get my license revoked or suspended. I don’t care at this point i just want it over with already.

Is there anything I can do to help myself at this point?
I just feel so screwed and hopeless and wish that collision had killed me on impact instead of smashing my face.

I am writing short story, concerning the car accident part. It is very hard for me to position myself within that situation, but i tried.

The weather was stormy and dark. I absolutely could not keep my eyes opened it was as if I had weights on them pulling them closed. I hesitated to go home. I leaned over the steering wheel, smirking foolishly. “I dont have a home.” I thought to myself. The rain fell hard on the high-way; the traffic was jammed. When the light finally turned green, i pressed on the gas pedal. Little did i expect another truck prodded over the red light at the other intersection. I was suddenly aware of everything all at once. I I rear ended another vehicle as i had trouble pressing the brake firmly enough. My car made a 90degrees spin and slided to the curb. The window pane splashed. The airbag exploded. My eyes was soon covered with blood and a pain in the neck escalated

Please cite your opinion or additive experience in this field.
    Thanks for the effort.

In the beginning of the year i was involved in a 4 car accident, (i was uninsured but the car was insured)I was the car in the back. while in the process of the claim my brothers insurance decided to cancel his insurance and said they would not be defending us in the claim. Both me and the driver were at fault for the accident but his insurance have put the fault on me. Now the guy from the car in front of me is asking to be compensated for 1,300 dollars and his insurance is demanding 3,700 from me. I do not work or having any sort of income. is there anything i can do. I know the driver in front of me was at fault to. I rear-ended him and he rear-ended another car because he was tailgating shouldn’t be he responsible for the damages done to the front of his car and me responsible for the damage to the back of his car? this whole accident happened because the guy at the front stopped suddenly while there was a green light.
Also i forgot the mention that there was no police report.

I got in a car accident with no license one me, but i do have a valid license, and no insurance on the vehicle. I paid for the gentleman’s bumper who i hit. The total damage to the vehicle i was in is around $3500. I had permission to borrow the car from the owner so I was not stealing the vehicle. Can I be sued or placed at the scene in a future police investigation and if so, can charges be pressed?
I paid for the damages on the car I hit, not the car i was driving.

Well im 18, and today got in my first serious car accident. I was driving around 60 and out of no where a minivan was making a left turn out of this neigborhood and i didnt have time to stop and rammed into her. My car is completely totaled, and of what I heard she was conscious and talking but was in worse shape than I was. Once the accident occured my car continued rolling and I pulled over, kicked the door so i could get out of the car, and called 911. This was one of the scariest things ive ever encountered, and i remember all i could think of was that this is it, Im going to die. I went to the ER and they did some xrays and determined I just had pulled some muscles by my ribcage. Im really worried that the other driver is hurt. Anyways I dont believe I was in the wrong because Im almost positive a left turn out of that neighborhood is illegal, and that is was my right of way. I was going 10 mph over the speed limit, atleast that was what the cop and I had decided on, but I wasnt paying attention to exactly the speed i was going. Now 6 hours have passed by and Im still pretty shook up, any suggestions? thank you

I got into a car accident yesterday and hit two cars. We all exchanged information and I contacted Geico. No one was hurt I have a small dent on my car by the light in the front and the other car has a dent in there door as well as the other person. I wasn’t high or drunk or speeding. One guy was in a company car and the other in his own car.
I was just wondering how much do I pay them?
How much do you think I’ll have to pay fro the damage of my car too?
    Like an estimation.
Placese help me I’m so upset with wat happend I know it was a major accdent but I wish it never happend.
I think I have full coverage.
It all took place in a parking lot.
I also think one of the cars I hit was going a bit too fast.
    Thanks…

I was in a car accident yesterday and it was my mom’s car and she was uninsured in wisconsin. The other car’s damages were 7,200 dollars. The police wasn’t involved. She is contacting her insurance company about the damages. Is a police report needed for the insurance to fix her car? Will we have to go to court? Would I have to pay the 7,200 dollars or the deductable? Help!!!!!

I got into a car accident and it was my fault. I’m 17 years old and the car I happened to be driving was my cousin’s car and it had no insurance on it because she hadn’t been driving for a while anyway. Anyway, since i didn’t have my own car…. i borrowed hers. and right before christmas i was doing some shopping for family and friends another car ran into me….it was my fault b/c I had the stop sign, the other person on the motorcycle did not. I was looking to my right but as I turned left his motorcycle slammed into my side. I got 3 tickets, 1 for it being my fault, 1 for no insurance and I don’t really understand the 3rd ticket….anyway, I heard that I may have my license suspended and (it’s my senior year) it may be hard to get to school. I heard something about an SR-22, but have no idea what that is, and I’m just kind of scared they’ll take my license away for a long time b/c I need to work (i have 2 jobs to get ready to pay for college, scholarship won’t cover everything). My GPA is 3.7 weighted on a 4 point scale, but individually, my grades were pretty average last semester. What will happen to me? I’m supposed to show up in court in a few days, what should I do? What should I expect? Anyone? Please share b/c honestly I’m kind of freaking out right now….

can someone still be alive after getting into a car accident where your car flips over? I saw this happen a week ago in a van flipping over in front of me after it crashes into a car. The van ended up standing regularly instead of being flipped over after it finished going through its tumbling motions. I looked inside to see movement in the driver and saw a small movement. There were people there already, so i left, but i dont know if that person made it or not. So i wanna ask u guys, if u saw a scene like this before where u happen to check the driver after u saw their car flip over, did they make it? How did they look like when u looked inside the car to see their condition?

I was involved in a car accident that happened about 1 hour ago, I am in Virginia and today was my 2nd day driving. I was out with my mother and It was about 10:40 p.m

I was getting ready to go and was stopped at a red light at a left turn, the signal turned green and I looked around and saw no car coming straight at me, so I was moving to make a left, and then suddenly a car is coming straight, with no honks or horns the car just slams into my car, I was making a left so my car was facing left, after the crash my car was turned about 90 degrees from where i was facing, so in a NSWE compass I would be facing West then after the car crash I was facing South with the other car that slammed onto my car facing South as well.

This was my second day of driving, my mother has not been in a big car crash like this and we both didn’t know what we had to do, we did not take any pictures of the accident but one blurry picture of his car being towed, and a voice recording of the officer being completely rude to me, every time I would go ask him about how to fill out the car accident exchange sheet he would tell me to get out of the road and go to the curb, every time I go to ask, he would just yell at me.

Anyways I’m 19 years old, I got my permit on 7/18 and I know i’m late, but I need my license ASAP so I can start going to college starting this fall.

also I talked to the insurance company person, and he has said that I might not be able to get my license until i’m 21.

    My questions are

    1. is this arguable, I was halfway down and he slammed onto me, who should have yielded for who? he didn’t even honk, he didn’t seem to have slowed down. I have no info on eye witness, cameras were absent from the scene and nothing is available to me except my memories of the accident, and my mothers, but her being an experienced driver said that she did not see the car coming aswell.

    2. would my license be delayed until 21

so i got into a car accident with a honda pilot that was either an 05′ 04′ or 03′ i was following as close as everyone else was unaware of how close i should be….i was following about 10 feet behind this car going 30mph. this guy slammed on his brakes and came to a complete stop i reacted the same i quickly took my clutch out of gear to prevent stalling (now i hear that may have been stupid) but i did that and slammed on my brakes. the guy behind me didnt hit me but cars all down behind me crashed. just fender benders. i guess two cars were towed. (11 cars involved total) now my accident is just between this guy but im not sure whos at fault. i mean yes, i may have been following too closely but he stopped without any warning so that means he must of been following too closely as well. but the thing is as soon as i crashed into him he moved foward and to the side of the road. shouldnt we of not moved? btu we were blocking traffic this was on the 101 right weher it became the 156.
and so the car i was driving was my moms. and my moms insurance is saying that they didnt cover me?!?!?!? becuase i was a resident in my moms household so i was excluded….i live on campus at college i have my own address how can they exclude me? then the guy i hit its just a little dent in his bumper on the right side becuase he went to the left and i tryed avoiding him by goign to the right. but he has 4 wheel anti lock brakes and i have brakes that i think locked up on me becuase i remember slamming on the brakes and hearing a whooshing sound…not a screech and the cops and my mom looked(i was driving alone she came after i called her) and there wasnt any skid marks from any of the cars?!?!? so how did we all crarsh?
k yes, all of us were following too closely. but why do i need to pay $1005 to buy this guy a new bumper. why cant they just pop out the dent and resand it and paint it? wouldnt that be better? and mayeb it is my fault but i feel that it wasnt my fault becuase he
stopped on a dime. my car doesnt do that. and yes i should of not been following so closely and now i realize it but i am 18 just started driving and i learn by what the people aroudn me ar doing and by what my parents do. ive always seen people follwoing closely always a few feet inbetween cars….so thats how i was driving. with the same space as i saw the other cars on the other side. along with what i see with everyday traffic. why should i have to pay for this guy to have his car fixed? my moms car was pretty much ruined. yes it runs but the insurance is wanting to take the car off of the insurance. we had to take the car in so they could look at it and see if it was “safe” to drive. and now im being told i might get my license taken away becuase i was uninsured. i am 18 got my licence aug 13th 2007 the car accident happend on feb 17 2008 . weve asked the husband and wife if they were hurt they said no but i got hurt my neck isnt bent the right way and the car accident “aggravate
so my neck got screwed up i did soooo many xrays done and then i just had a MRI done becuase the doctors were worried about the discs in my neck. so i pose another question. if i crashed into a mercedes benz that goes from 80 to 0 in 4 seconds….whos fault would it be?
so do we give they guy i hit a check for his bumper? or do we give it to his insurance? that way there is record of it
everyones just answered the question of who should pay…..i kinda ask alot more questions in my writing can u kinda read it and answer to swee where im coming from

My son and I were in a car accident on Feb. 11…my car was totaled. After two weeks we started physical therapy because our bodies were stiff and completely just hurting….I just stopped taking lortabs and muscle relaxers about a week ago…the therapists I’m seeing now says I’ll probably be in therapy about three weeks to a month. I have a little scar on my forehead that came from the rear view mirror hitting my head after the other person hit us, well and after my car hopped a curb and landed in someone’s yard. My question…if after about a month and a half of therapy…how much am I looking at receiving from my settlement…and I know not to just go with the first thing the insurance company offer me…I’m just looking for a good number that should be fair enough for me and my son

I was in a car accident yesterday morning on my way home from work. I work nights. I was traveling East bound and the other lady was traveling West bound. The lady came straight in to the intersection and appeared to stop and as soon as I entered the intersection she pulled in front of me. I hit her but I had a green light and the police that were at the intersection and witnessed the entire thing said I am not at fault.

Now my question: All the damage done to my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is the front bumper is gone and the driver head light hanging. That is a mild accident given the stoutness of the vehicle. I work in the NICU and I asked my friends if I should get new car seats and they all said yes. I got on one site and it said absolutely. How do I get the lady’s insurance company to agree with me? I don’t want to seem like I am trying to nickel and dime them but I am a freak about the safety of my kids and since the accident wasn’t my fault I don’t think I need to pay for the new car seats. Am I expecting too much?

On a side note: I was in an accident almost exactly like this almost exactly two years ago except my little Chevy Malibu was totalled and I had my then 10 month old baby boy in the car and I was 5 weeks pregnant and got a fractured toe. That insurance company didn’t give me a fair price for my car and they didn’t pay for a replacement car seat.

I’d like some opinions on this. New driver (Car A) gets into first accident. Car A is traveling west, Car B is making a left hand turn north. Light turns yellow 25 feet to the line. Car A keeps traveling. Car B thought Car A would stop. They collide. So far Car B is 100% at fault. Now this is where it gets tricky. My cousin really did this grrrrr

Car B occpys 2 young males. The males are intimdating and not giving information. My cousin gave his information. They wouldn’t let him move on. They had him write the accident was his fault. My cousin purposely didn’t date, time, who, what, when, where, or why and didn’t sign his full name as soon as he got away from them he contacted his insurance.

What is your opinion? How bad is this for him? I’m worried he is going to be sued. Half the family is not even talking to him the agruements have been so bad. I’ve done my fair share of yelling at him to. I hope this works out okay for him.
Just to add some more details. His reasoning for not calling police is he didn’t want to turn his back to them. I guess the two guys were mainly talking to each other in chinese and he didn’t trust the sitution.

He is set into believing the note means nothing under the conditions and the damage will show what happen. His damage is on the drivers side. The other car is front center damage.

I personally would have a lawyer by now. He wont listen.

I sense it when someone got in a car accident. I probably wouldn’t the person or people. I live in Southern CA , and I think I sense when someone got in a car accident if I’m around the area. Plus, I’m only 12.

So the first time this happened was when I was coming home from LA with my cousin, aunt, mom, and second cousin. I fell asleep and when I woke up I felt a pain in my lower back and I got a sinking feeling. My first impression was about a car accident and I got scared that we were going to get in one. When my mom & I were going to go home, we heard firetruck & ambulance sirens and my cousin said that a car accident happened. I told them i got the feeling that a car accident happened and they didn’t really respond. This happened a few months ago. I would say in July or August. Probably August. Anyways, the feelings I get are like a sinking, sad, or a bad feeling. (does that make sense?) I also get a pain in my lower back or like the small of my back. I get a ache or pain somewhere where a person probably got injured. This has happened many times between when it first happened and now. I was right about the car accidents too. The most recent was when my mom & I were coming home from my aunt’s house. I got a pain in my lower back,my left knee, and I got that familiar feeling. A car accident happened on the freeway next to us. This happened this past Friday.

I never told anyone about this but I did tell my best friend about it last week. She thought it was scary and she didn’t say I was weird or strange or anything because of this. Also, I was in a car accident earlier this year in May. We got rear-ended and I got a bump on the back of my head. Would the car accident have anything to do with this? Has anyone else experienced this? Can you get rid of it? Am I some sort of physic of something? I don’t think I am. Does anyone have a clue on why I can sense when a car accident happened? Please help.

Ok, I have a car and it’s at my name, no one else’s; but I live with my mom, I am 18 btw. My mom keeps saying that if I have a car accident she’s the one who’s going to get sued. If I have a car accident and don’t have an insurance what will happen to my mom? And If I have a car accident and DO have an insurance, what will happen to her?

So basically, this has happened 3 times since I got my license a week ago. I’m in a parking lot and I think that i have started the engine of my car so i put it in reverse. it goes rolling on backwards and it seems normal, but then when I try to break it, i realize that my engine isn’t on. so i park it and put it in drive.
this has happened 3 times. you think i would have learned by now but i haven’t. both times i was able to stop the car before it hit anything else, but all i can think about is what if a car had been coming when i was backing it out? what if i couldn’t break my car? what if i got in a car accident?
now i am afraid to drive after these incidents. i’ve been lucky enough to NOT hit any cars when i was backing out, but now i feel like the next time i won’t be so lucky.
