The Future Of Leadership Development

As in all things, the future promises an array of brand new ways and new understanding in the training of leadership and leadership development. These are critical role-changing contexts which will perform an important part in leadership development.

Several trends will assume major roles in the days ahead, changing perspectives and changing premises of old assumptions as well as general thinking.

Authority competencies

First, leadership competencies (requirements) will still matter. However, they will change because the competitive environment changes.

A study indicates 5 critical forces will shape leadership later on: 1) global competition, 2) information technology, 3) the need for rapid and versatile groups, 4) teams, and also 5) differing employee requirements.

Future leaders will have to be familiar and fluid in doing business over a global basis. Globalization, in effect, will require leaders to cope with more and more complex teams outside the realm of their organizations.

There will be much more components involving global markets, global financial trends, and outside regions like the Asia Pacific rim, the particular Southern Hemisphere, etc. You will see an extensive use of the internet in the marketing of merchandise and services.

The revolution inside technology has considerably altered organizational life. It has changed the methods information and knowledge are obtained and spread.

One of the most important adjustments is in the way people communicate. This acquired produced some deep implications in terms of effective management. In the future, technology may have a vast participation in leadership development.

Frontrunners will have to be more knowledgeable together with technology and its makes use of. As a matter of fact, technological savvy is scheduled to become an integral element in leadership.

Character as well as integrity

The Nineties had produced some of the most blatant corporate cockiness among executives of certain huge companies. (Think Enron and WorldCom.)

This particular had triggered and accelerated sentiments among governing board people in companies that character and also values shall be produced more prominent inside the leadership business.

There’s a trend among the brand new crop of CEOs to be self-effacing and modest. (This is in primary contrast to the self-promoting varieties of well-known business leaders just before them who was lacking enduring positive impacts on their companies once they exited.)

Return on investment

The strongest pressure of leadership practitioners in the future would be to demonstrate ROI (roi). Leadership development may be strategically important, however it is altogether expensive.

Todays leading-edge businesses (Pepsi, IBM J&J) are already quantifying the benefits of spending time and resources on authority development for years.

In the future, it is likely that authority development investments will be a priority of agencies committed to this end. However, plans tend to be afoot to maximize ROI for leadership development efforts by way of effective planning, implementation as well as evaluation.

New pondering

Some time from now, the thinking is leadership and management development are going to be fundamentally collaborative, social and relational procedures. It shall be understood as a collective capability of all members of the business.

This kind of leadership development is more difficult to design and implement. This is because it is in immediate contrast to the well-known notion of the past decades where the focus is to train individual frontrunners.

Here’s the prompt: Please tell us about a passion of yours and how you would develop it through the Weissman program.
Here’s my essay: For several years, it has been my ultimate aspiration become a successful entrepreneur and open my own retail/entertainment business. This passion stems from my desire to create innovation and continuously improve is multiple areas because in owning my own business I would be exposed to these two fundamental aspects every day. I’ve been this pursuit by working in retail, at Ralph Lauren, for over a year now, and this experience will serve as a foundation towards my goal of opening my own business, and in addition allowed me to discover that this vision is truly something I want to achieve. The Wiessman program would make this aspiration much more easily attainable through all aspects of the program, mainly because it would allow me to focus my resources towards solely attaining and striving towards becoming a successful entrepreneur.
As a Weissman Scholar, I would have a multitude of resources at my fingertips, such as: intellectual inquiry, leadership and teamwork, extraordinary internships, global citizenship, entrepreneurial spirit, and mentoring and networking. The idea of having all of this available to me is extremely exciting because I view each one as an important aspect in improving as a person and as an entrepreneur. I view myself as somewhat of a raw talent, meaning that I have much more work to do to reach my true potential, and through the aid of guidance of a dedicated faculty advisor (supplied by the Weissman program), I would have the opportunity to overcome any obstacles that the future may present and navigate on the right path. This guidance would also be supplemented by the mentoring and networking part of the program as well.
I’ve tried many entrepreneurial explorations, but unfortunately they all came to a halt due to available funds. Many I’ve attempted were related to buying used or damaged merchandise and restoring it to a better condition, and then selling it for a net profit, but every time I haven’t been able to dedicate enough of my own income towards these projects to keep them going. Stipends for independent research provided by the Weissman program would allow me to partake in activities such as the ones previously described, without the factor of insufficient funds, and this opportunity would be confounded by the resourced made available be the entrepreneurial spirit aspect of the program.
As a successful entrepreneur, I would have to be able to lead and inspire my team of coworkers to achieve the best results, and further development of this would be fulfilled by the leadership and teamwork experienced as part of the Weissman program. I’ve served several leadership roles during my high school career, such as a three time varsity athletics captain and a one time extracurricular activity captain, but none of these environments are similar to one such as a retail business, and my previous leadership experience could likely be transferred from the high school environment to the business environment with the help of the leadership and teamwork provided by the Weissman program.
I believe that experience is one of the most important factors in being successful in the business world, and many schools across the country do a poor job of exposing students to a realistic business environment and provide them valuable experience for their careers after attending a higher institution. This belief is parallel to the extraordinary internships I would participate in as part of the Weissman program because I would be able to develop necessary and valuable skills that I wouldn’t be able to obtain from a business textbook or powerpoint presentation. One of my best skills is absorbing information visually, and by watching first hand how the business world works I would be able to utilize this skill to understand certain aspects of it as well as be able to reproduce similar results and information to those that I witnessed. This also ties into the global opportunities that would be available to me as well because I would be able to witness, understand and learn from other perspectives and strategies on the global market in other parts of the world.
In conclusion, the Weissman program would be an incredible opportunity for me to chase my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur by opening my own retail/entertainment business. More specifically, my vision is to create a business that sells home-oriented retail items, such as televisions and furniture, that also functions as a source of social entertainment, possibly with concerts featuring local musicians and an area for people to relax. This program would serve as a monumental stepping stone in my journey for this ultimate goal, and help me reach the true potential of my vision.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am on my third semester in college, business admin is my major. However, I applied and am starting honors classes in the spring. They did not have classes I really need to take but I have to take 2 honors classes per semester. Needless to say I will be taking longer to complete my degree because of it. I am not really angry because I am thinking that honors will make a difference. Will it? Do future employers care? Do future colleges car?

    1. This article discusses the benefits of using bilingual books in the classroom where English is taught as a second language. The article also discusses the importance of literacy and illiteracy; and illustrates how to use bilingual books to foster the development of literacy for those learning a second language. This article states that literacy is associated with educational success and achievement. It is part of the cultural capital valued by our society and achievement in it serves as a primary gatekeeper for entry into educational institutions, the workforce, and leadership positions (Gutierrez, 1992).
    2. This article discusses the controversy of bilingual education. In this article Moses argues that the various criticisms against bilingual education policy are not clearly seen and focused on nostalgic notions of Americanization and assimilation. Moses examines how bilingual education policy should be justified based on the principle of self determination.
    3. In this article, Krashen reviews what is known about Hispanic students and the dropout rate. Krashen discusses if the cause of students dropping out is because of bilingual education. Krashen states that most students in bilingual education speak Spanish, but not all Spanish speaking children are in bilingual education. Fewer than half of the Spanish speaking children in school in California are limited English proficient (Han,Baker, and Rodriguez, 1997; Snyder and Hoffman 1996).

    4. This article argues that even though bilingual education is effective, it is not a good idea for the country because bilingualism threatens to take the sense of national identity and divide everyone along ethnic lines. Some English advocates are in fear that any government recognition of minority languages sends the wrong message to immigrants. Bilingual education has become a target of political attacks.

Even if, with Greece, Rome was a cradle for the modern society, now it’s just a dirty, brash, and dangerous suburb at the peripheral of Europe and the World.

Even if every generalization always implies a margin of error, we all know the stereotypes about Italians and Italy, and they are not that different from those of other Balkan States where corruption is endemic. “Little-minded” people more than “close-minded”: unable to understand ethics without personal gain, unable to conceive politics not as a “fashionable lifestyle”, where a certain way to talk make you feel cooler (for dialectic schemes or simply for communitarian mechanisms). Etc etc.

Normally we say that poorest lands tend to be a little late in civilization, let’s say 50-60 years, or even more. But Italy is not that poor, neither it’s cut off the Western World, since my question:

What is, in your opinion, the reason that makes Italy so badly different, let’s say, from the Northern States?

PS avoid making passionate defenses of this or that, it’s not what I asked.

This Sunday is Father’s Day where the United States takes time to remember the roles that Father’s play in the development of their children’s lives. Out of the 43 men who have been President (since Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President) of the United States of America, 40 men have been fathers.

In answering this question, which two Presidents would you say provided effective leadership to their children. The answer has to be a President before you were born and a President who became leader of our nation after you were born.

The President I would choose before I was born is Abraham Lincoln because as a Father, he president during a dividing time for our nation during the American Civil War and he provided effective leadership to our nation and helped to united our nation even though his son William died while he was in office.

The President I would say provided effective leadership to our nation after I was born is Georgie H.W. Bush because he is a statesman who provided effective leadership to his children in becoming effective and productive citizens and this includes his son and Former President George W. Bush and potential Future President John Ellis “Jeb” Bush.

You cannot mention James Buchanan or James Polk because neither had any children. You can learn more about Presidents First Families at

It is no secret that the days of mankind are numbered on Earth. Humans have the whole universe to explore to find resources or another spaceship. Will this be taken seriously by the general public or will it remain a dream of a fanatical few? Is there future in space exploration and would a career in that field be wise? I’d like to hear all of your opinions!

can somebody tell me what is market leadership and throw in sume examples for me. Right now I’m reading this stock investment book and kind of confused about it already =(

Also what do they mean perceived staying power: you want companies with financial clout and market position to weather uncertain market and conomic conditions. it shouldn’t matter wat happens in the economy or who gets elected.

I just got my bachelors degree, from a very recognised institution, but with a low GPA >2.

I want to become a leader in the future. I have read many books in leadership & self development, been to many individual leadership training courses, and even gave many speeches and trained many people for leadership. I have succeeded with high levels in all of these.

Now, I feel that all I did was an entry level for leadership, and I want to study or get trained to be a good leader.

What is the best solution for me?
-Should I take a Master’s degree in leadership? “Any place accepts students with low GPAs?”
-Should I get coached for leadership? “Where?”
-Should I go to specific training agencies? “Where?”

I hope you can help me,
    thnx in advnace

Trace the development of who we are as Roman Catholic Christians from our foundations in Judaism, through scripture, discussing our covenantal relationship with God, how this relationship developed over time, symbols used to represent the covenants, our emergence as the followers of God, who are shepherded by Rome’s leadership, and what is expected of us by God and the Church in the practice of our faith in God and towards one another.
