Does anyone know how much a graphic designer would charge, by the hour, in the UK? How does this differ from the rates of a desk top publishing designer?

I’m a photographer who is looking for an awesome graphic designer who is familiar with branding (not just fancy logos as there is a difference). I prefer them to be in Indiana but they can be anywhere in the country really. Who would you recommend? Please, graphic designers don’t post yourself here. I won’t look at you unless someone else vouches they’ve used and like you. That’s the point of referrals. Thanks!

I was recently accepted to a state school that offers a studio art program but no other art majors. I’m wondering if it is possible to obtain the studio art degree while working towards a portfolio and graphic design “concentration” while not actually obtaining a graphic design degree. Is it very important to employers that graphic designers have a graphic design degree or is studio art a suitable substitute?

Is using sites like photobucket, picnik, and befunky to enhance/add effects illegal for graphic designers, or do you have to create the effect yourself in photoshop?

    What’s legal?

I was wondering this, because I saw some works by professionist graphic designers and they’re not so different from what I’m able to do. The problem is I studied graphic design in school for 5 years in Italy.. but in Italy we study especially theory so I don’t know how to make a “workbook” or something practical.
I mean… I know how to do, because in the previous years I made something, but I’m not sure how to deal certain things in a working field.
    Any advice?

I’m interested in graphic design as a major in college, but I’m wondering what kind of work one does. I’m interested in several different things, like film and video games, among others. Are there any places for graphic designers there?

Second part: I might major in English and minor in graphic design. Would I still be able to get into those fields, or work for an advertising agency or something, if I did that?

Ok so I cant draw AT ALL, but I love building things and making things (Like contraptions or even things like posters) and I was wondering if that is ok if I want to be a graphic designer.’
All I really know is that I want a job that I can make things, and not have to sit in a desk all day. I also hate math. Lol
So pretty much to sum it up, I am wondering what kinds of jobs sound like what I would enjoy and exeed in, and does a graphic designer sound like that.

So I figured I should freelance.

Is there more to it then designing banners and images in Photoshop?

I am looking for an income, nothing extraordinary, but what are some estimates.

I want to be a graphic designer. I’m creative, sorta good at drawing, I’ve had some experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. and I have some basic knowledge of HTML. I took a class on graphic design for a semester, and I loved it.

But the thing is, I don’t have people skills, and I’m shy. I have a few close friends, but I can’t deal with groups of, say, more than five people. I’m trying to improve though, and I can say that I’m a lot better now than when I was in middle school. I’m just wondering if this will affect my chances of getting a career in graphic design?

I’m a Graphic Designer and a Web Developer/Designer. Pretty soon I’ll be purchasing an apple computer. What do you recommend for someone in my profession, and how much memory do I need because I’ll be using media programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and gaming).

I have an iMac desktop. One of the first ones that came out (all White, built in iSight, but no intel processor), and it is horribly slow. You do bring up a good point…I will look at the desktops as well.
    What about the hard drive?
Thank you, you are a great help. I attend Savannah College of Art & Design. 🙂 I contacted tech support to give me suggestions but their mailbox was full…so here I am at yahoo answers.

I desperately need your help! I am a student in grade 11 and I know I either want to be an illustrator or graphic designer. Problem is, which one? Are they different, or the same? Like If I want to be an illustrator, what college/university courses would I take? Can I take a graphic designing course and still become an illustrator? or take an illustrator course and have the ability to choose between the two? I am currently living in Ontario, so if you know any good courses for graphic design/ illustration in college or university, please let me know. Plus, what one will be in more demand? more opportunities?
