Acquiring Auto Insurance Estimates On the internet

If saving money about car insurance appeals to you, next getting auto insurance quotes from multiple organizations should be your first step. The simplest way to accomplish this is by going on line. Purchasing car insurance online is so easy and handy that there’s no reason never to get auto insurance estimations on the web. What’s better is there is no must leave the house – you’ll find the best auto insurance estimates on your own time, whenever.

Experts have said that many people pay an excessive amount of for car insurance since they never took the time to have multiple auto insurance estimates. Further, experts promote purchasing car insurance on the internet because you can start a credit card applicatoin, save it, and come back to it later. There’s no need to worry about cost or responsibility. From just one program, you can get many car insurance estimates for free. You happen to be never required to commit to an auto insurance estimate, even when it is lower than your present rates.

Are there downsides to getting an auto insurance estimate online Very few, when any. Access to the internet will be the first requirement, and is not a problem for most. As well, you’ll need about 30 minutes to submit an application. Your time and effort commitment will vary for the way many auto insurance quotes you’re looking for.

Before investing an auto insurance estimate, look for with your current service provider to see if they’re able to offer you a better rate. Most insurance providers will give a discount in the event you carry multiple policies with them. For example, the aggregate of your auto, life, and house insurance could be much less as compared to if purchased separately.

Some shoppers have concerns about sending personal information on the web. If you do have a concern, make sure that their application page is safe and encrypted. Can you be sure if the page is protected Check your individual net browser’s help data files. You can also read the insurance firm’s privacy policy, which should become on the same page as the application. Privacy policies outline how the company makes use of your personal information. Generally, they will not share your information with anyone. They will only use your information to give you an auto insurance estimate.

Once you’ve found an acceptable automobile insurance estimate, you have the use of purchasing it immediately, or you can have it mailed to you. A single caveat is to help make absolutely sure that the facts about your application is 100% correct. The wrong information can easily skew your automobile insurance estimate.

Before you agree to the purchase, make sure the organization is reputable. A low car insurance estimate does an individual no good if right now there service is non-existent. Lastly, make sure the insurance company is licensed to give you an automobile insurance estimate in your state.

My $500. Deductable versus me able to pay it….I thought, If my auto insurance company estimates and gives me the check for my bumper damage, I can elect to repair or not. And they will not repair it in the future. And I could use the money to buy a bumper and a friend and I could fix it cheaper.

I got into an accident last week and I was at fault. I have full coverage. If I file an auto insurance claim and send them the body shop estimates, do they send me a check? If the adjuster approves one of my estimates from the body shop, do they send me a check? If so, is the check made out to the certain auto shop or to myself? I’m not trying to spend the money on anything else. It’s just that I think I can get a better deal from a family friend.

Alright, time to clarify. I will be a brand new driver, I don’t really mind the car. I will be 17. Minimum coverage will do. Hope that helps.

I was just rear ended and it was the other driver’s fault. The only damage is two small holes in my rear bumber from his license plate. His insurance company sent me to a auto body shop where the insurance adjuster gave me an estimate for $400 to cover the repair of the bumber, which is some type of plug or somthing and paint. There is no parts on the estimate, only labor and paint. The vehicle is a 09 BMW 328i in perfect condition. My question is do I have the right to request a new bumper? Or is this a common fix for this type of repair? Thank you.

I had to fight to get where I am now, I have insurance that I don’t have to pay a crapload for. Why is it the law to have insurance? If we have a law for insurance, I think we should have laws regulating how insurance works. I could not get my own policy for a long time, I had to be under the same name as my dad. If I tried to get my own with the same company they said my insurance would go up $50 a day. They make it very hard to get what is required by law to have. They use statisics to tell you what kind of driver that you are not. I think there has to be some way to change the rules. Should make it either easier to get insurance since you have to have it or not make it a requirement at all.

So I have gotten my car repaired in this shop on the following ocassions.

december 2009 right side passenger body panel
december 2010 rear bumper, right side exhaust pipe tank
march 2012 front hood, front bumper, front headlights, radiator
may 2013- right side headlight and right side bumper
i began to notice, as it became evident to me that the repairs done on my car looked unethical at its best. Before all of you say why didnt you check in all this situations if the car looked fine, before leaving the shop, well its because i never picked up the car in all these situations since i had someone else like my mom, dad, and even sister pick up the car since i was at college and at work in NY. It wasn’t only until early 2012 (after the 3rd accident that i starting seeing the unacceptable work from this repair shop) that i noticed, when learning to change my car’s oil and other typical car maiteance work, the following:
december 2009 – i noticed the right side passenger body panels were uneven to the opposite side of the car. Basically, the car looks very different and off from the right side.
december 2010- i noticed that the rear bumper did not look like oem and right side exhaust lead pipe (which was dented and crooked after the accident) looked rather like blacksmith straightened the exhaust pipe, and let me point out that there are screws on this right side exhasut lead pipe as evidence.
march 2012- both front headlights have within white scratches within the headlights (i mean within inside the headlights and NOT the exterior of the headlights). i also noticed that the front hood and front bumper looks significantly off in color and uneven.
may 2013- the front bumper replaced looks uneven.

Now, the auto shop owner was specifically told by my family and myself that we wanted originals installed on the car, since our insurance was going to pay. I can guarantee that 95% at least of these parts from all these accidents are not oem. Let me tell you we pay auto insurance with full coverage and in all these scenarios a very good amount of money was paid to get these car accident damages fixed to its best. If i would have wanted shit aftemarket junk yard parts on my car, i would have saved alot of money, so this guy is not doing me a favor in installing aftermarket parts on my car, because i spend my hard earn money in paying for good insurance.

anways, i plan to go to my dealer, where i had bought the car new, and have them inspect and check to see in the affected accident areas if these parts are indeed aftermarket parts to confirm, and then i will go to this auto repair guy’s shop and ask him the past invoices for of these accidents and, tell him to fix the car again with the oem parts. if he denies, then i will have to file a small courts claim. However, being that i would have dealer proof that aftermarket and self fixing of parts were used on my vehicle i should be able to win without a shadow of a doubt this case, since when the estimates for this car when it got to these accidents were suppose to be oem parts.

p.s. this auto repair shop guy is very rude, my mother has said, as he would say ” you guys again, wrecked your car again, blah blah blah. What type of professional talks that way, and he should have been happy to see us, since our misfortune was his luck, in getting business.
by the way the months and year dates are the dates of the accidents. I did not notice all this shit work done by this auto shop until early 2012. I am planning to go this week, since i am usually stuck here in NY for most of the year. I just want this unethical professional to fix or pay for the damages obtained.

I was involved in a car collision back in January 2013. I was the front passenger. My “friend” was driving his girlfriends vehicle. He does not have a driving license nor auto insurance. We collided with a truck at an intersection while traveling at about 60mph, we ended up with a totalled vehicle. I lost consciousness on impact. I bit my toungue pretty bad and was gushing blood from my mouth. I was taken to the nearest hospital in an ambulance. While at the hospital, I was given several xrays and medication. Luckily I recovered and was released from the hospital within a 2days. Now I’m stressing over my medical bills, which I just received in the estimated amount of $7,000. Prior to receiving the bill, my “friend” said he would take care of paying ALL dues. After I sent him a picture of the bill amount, he changed his response to “he would help me out AS MUCH as he could”. He asked me to give him a copy of the bill, but he is reluctant on providing me with any info. All the information I have, I had to get on my own. He told me he is talking to lawyers and his lawyer will “take care of us both”. To me it sounds kind of fishy. Should I provide him with any documents? What do I do to help myself out? I need help paying for my medical bills. I had to quit one of my two jobs due to chronic body aches. Any advice is greatly appreciated. At this moment I am waiting for the police report which I had to pay for, and my “friend” wants a copy of it when I get it. I am 21 yrs old and this is my first time involved in an accident.

I know several people who have submitted their information into one of the many “online auto insurance quotes” and now they have solicitors all over them, on their phone, emails, junk mail and even one case of Social Security Identity theft. So my question is: Are these online auto insurance quotes really safe? Doesn’t it make sense to stay with a local auto insurance agent you can do business with either on the phone or in person.

I don’t have a body shop or business, I just have the skill necessary to fix their car. How can I request for a supplement for Travelers Auto insurance? The estimate just doesn’t pay what it should and I need to correct it.

I crashed my 2009 Nissan Versa hatchback today. it was a big collision and the air bags deployed. My husband was financing the car and still making payments so I’m pretty sure he has full coverage. I wasn’t able to speak to an insurance agent cause it was late and they didn’t pick up. I know my front bumper is gone and the front of the car is messed up , the radiator started leaking very bad and the passenger door wasn’t even openable. judging from what I’ve told you , would the insurance company most likely pay off the car or get a new one or fix it up? I really liked that car and I feel terrible about it. it was my fault. I have USAA if that makes a difference .

My car was plowed into by another car going 40 mph. The car needs a new bumper has bent metal , muffler damage, paint damage…the list goes on. The other party accepted liablility. The auto dealer where I dropped it off said it could be fixed for under $500 LOL. The police and my husband thought the damage was at least $2,000. I called to ask about the low price and they said they were not sure if it needed a new bumper. The bumper is totaled. What advantage for the insurance company/auto place would it be to not fix a car properly. BTW I’m injured too and was taken away by ambulance…still can’t move my neck. Please help.
The reason I’m confused is because I brought the car in several months before for a small scratch and they estimated $700. MUCH less damage then what is on there now.

I will try to be as detailed as possible without making this seem overly complicated.
My wife recently was rear ended as she was stopped at a red light. The other driver was found at fault and we are having some difficulty with their insurance company. The damage on our car was enough to total it.
here is a list of things we have done and the insurance companies actions.
1 – we took the car to a repair shop where they would hold on to it made estimates etc.
2 – other party’s insurance company would pay 200 for pain and suffering on whiplash (terribly low), 4,100 for the car (KBB value for retail which is a good thing)
3 – we needed a rental as we both have jobs and an infant to take care of.
4 – we have not received any payment from the company and we are receiving paperwork to transfer possession of the vehicle and title.
5 – the insurance company is having us return the rental before we even received paperwork for transferring ownership of the totaled vehicle, payment for the totaled vehicle, thus making us out a car and the money stated that are owed. In this instance, we were also told that we owe $200 for the rental fees. we have had the rental for one week (insurance not covering rental costs?)
6 – we are losing time at work for the return of the rental.
7 – we are close to not having enough cash for our rent and about to terminate our lease early due to lost wages and unexpected payments.
8 – my wife is still experiencing pain from the injury caused from the accident and no word on repayment, coverage, or pain and suffering compensation from the insurance.

Other facts, We have not signed ANY paperwork due to the fact that all the paperwork given to us have been agreement for $200 in pain and suffering, and paperwork for transference of the vehicles title.

What can we do to expedite the insurances payment of the vehicle? Having a replacement is crucial for us in keeping our apartment. Isn’t it the insurances responsibility for payment of a rental in this case? Also is it correct that the rental is returned before compensation of the totaled vehicle is given? let alone the car title?

Any help is greatly appreciated as losing an apartment would be devastating to anyone. If this were to happen, could this be used against the insurance company for their neglect to replace our mode of transportation? Its been close to 3 weeks since the accident itself and we have received ZERO thus far.

I was recently involved in an accident where the guy behind me didn’t stop and crashed into the back of my car, causing moderate damage to the bumper and the body of my car. I was somewhat relieved that the other guy had insurance and thought everything would be taken care of by his insurance company.

Took my car to a shop the company suggested and received a preliminary estimate for the repairs. At this point I was still feeling comfortable that everything would be all right and my car would get repaired without any problems. But a couple of days ago I received a phone call from the body shop representative telling me that the estimate was being re-evaluated by the insurance company and there was a chance my car would be deemed a total loss.

I own a 14 year old car that has 135,000 miles and runs great even after the accident. Unfortunately my trunk doesn’t open and one of the rear tires comes in contact with the fender when I make certain turns. Even though it’s an old car, it’s very reliable and I’m sure would last me another 10 years.

The car’s value on Kelly Blue Book is approx $1,200 to $1,400. My question is: if it is in fact deemed a total loss, would I get a check for the above amount and have to relinquish my car? It would probably be impossible to find a reliable car for that amount of money, so I feel like I’d be getting screwed over. What are my options if they do call it a total loss and only want to give me $1,200? Has anybody had a similar experience?

I got into a small accident whereas I was rearended by a truck. I drive an 07 honda civic i’ve owned less than a yr. His front bumper had a small dent, and my rear only minor scuffs/scratches. Estimator appraised cost to fix as $571. My deductible is $500. Is this worth it for some small scratches? Should I wait for his insurance check and fix this myself? Just want some ideas.

I backed into a parked car. I gave the driver my info and called my insurance company to confirm my bill was paid because I was out of the country for a week. They said no and, when i asked about reinstating asked me if any incidents had occurred during the lapse. In a panic I said no. I paid the bill and they reinstated the policy. Once the other driver filed a claim on my policy I called the adjuster and said I was uninsured during the loss and I do not expect them nor do I want them to pay for the loss and my intention is to pay for all losses out of pocket. I was scared and dumb when I initially lied about losses during the lapse and attempted to correct my actions by contacting the adjuster moments after the initial call, admitting fault and confirming I was not covered during the loss thus no claims should be paid….but I feel it was too little too late. I’m pretty sure the claim was denied but everyone at my insurance company is being very vague. Please help.

Is it like against the law? And also if it is needed what do I do?

I read-ended another car at an intersection. Both of us were stopped at a light. When the light turned green, the other car started moving and immediately slammed on brakes. In the meanwhile, I had taken my foot off brake and hit the car (at < 5mph).

The other party has filed claim for $1350 for damages and also for "unknown" amount of bodily injury. There is not even a mark of any collision on my car (as the speed was low). My insurance company has agreed to their claim related to damages and is waiting for the exact amount for the bodily injury claim.

This has been quite unfair to me and will definitely bump up my premium like crazy.

Is there any way I can challenge my insurance company's appraisal of the damages ? Are there any other alternatives ? What kind of evidence would I need to furnish for the same ?

We had called a "Cop" to report the accident. I wanted him to note that the impact was at < 5mph. However, he refused to do that saying that this would be left to insurance
Well… Folks, thanks for the answers. As I said earlier, I am not denying that I was at fault and neither is it my intention to ignore the impact on the other car/driver.

The other party had actually contacted me to settle this privately and we had agreed for me to hand out a certain amount. The day I was going to hand over a check, I just happened to call up my insurance agent and learnt that the other party had reported the accident 5 days ago. So in worst case, I would have still paid the check and also had gotten an acci. reported against me.

Shady dealing like this on other party's behalf and knowing the speed/magnitude of impact makes me believe that the other party is just trying to extract as much as possible out of this.

Again, my car had absolutely no damages (even minor). So it is difficult to believe that the damagaes to other car are worth $1350 and bodily injury is completely out of question. (People dont get injured if another car TOUCHES their car) Arhhh… Patheti

I was rear-ended a few weeks ago. The othe rguy had insurance, and I’ve gotten people from my insurance company and his to come out and take a look at the damage. The problem each damage estimate is different.
My company wants to total out my car and pay off the rest of the auto loan. His company says the car is salvagable and wants to pay for the repairs.
My policy estimate would pay off my loan and leave me with approximately $100 more than the other policy wants to give me to fix it, so I’m leaning towards taking my policy’s deal.
My question is, is it possible for my policy to revoke the money after they compare their estimate to th eothe rcompany’s? I don’t want to take the money, pay the loan and fix the car only to have to pay back the amount because my insurance company liked the other guy’s company’s estimate better.

i recently put my car in a collision shop and the collision shop says they need new parts for the car and the adjuster doesnt want to write the check. my car is old 2000(integra) and the damage extends through the whole back and onto the side of my car and i believe that the job to repair it would cost more than what the adjuster wrote me the check for. My insurance basically wants to pound out all the metal and bondal everything and just paint over whatever is damages(basically cutting their cost) is there anything i can do about it?i feel that my car deserves more than that i havnt had any accidents and 1 ticket through out my driving life.
so is there a way that i can just tell them to total my car? i mean the damage is very extensive and i want the job to be good…i dont see how they can just repair it.

I got hail damage on my car a few weeks ago. I made an insurance claim. They sent and estimator out and estimated it yesterday. $2000 damage. My deductible is $1000. It’s just minor cosmetic damage and I don’t want to spend $1000 of my money for the deductible to get it fixed. Can I keep the $1000 they send me ($2000 -$1,000 for deductible=$1000)? I have a lien on the car and they said the lien holder (bank) and my name will both be on the check. What do I do? Do I have to actually get the work done to get the lien holder to sign the check over to me? Is there any way around it? Like I said, I don’t have $1000 extra for the deductible so I’m not getting the car fixed either way. Also, the lien holder is my actual bank. Do you think because they are on the check they might overlook it and let me deposit the money into my account?

They came and took pictures. Side note: I had my allstate estimate in the car and the guy took pictures of that too. Was that bad that I let him take pics of my estimate? Would his insurance co. pay it all off, meaning I wouldn’t have to put any money into it like a deductible? If the damages come out to 340.00 State Farm would pay it all off right? Thanks

For auto insurance claims, when the other party is 100% at fault why will the insurance not pay 100% of the estimated damages?

I have three estimates, all within $100 of each other and their insurance company is refusing to pay the full amount. They will only pay a fraction of the damages.

How do I get them to pay 100%? Why are they putting up a fight when the other person was 100% at fault?
If I only had liability insurance will my insurance company still fight it out with them?
The car I am talking about belongs to a customer and I am the body shop. My estimate is the same as two other body shop’s estimates. The insurance company will only pay $2000 when the actual estimates are $2800. What’s the problem here? Why won’t they just pay?

Because I had the repairs (I found those in the few weeks I had it) estimated, and due to the amount of repairs we renegotiated the price, with him coming down $1300. Now he is demanding my receipts for the repairs so he can sumbit them to the insurance company. I said it sounded like insurance fraud to me and refused to give them to him. He is still harrassing me about them (weeks later) saying the insurance company knows it is “pre-existing”. Don’t want to screw my friends brother over but don’t want to go to jail for insurance fraud.

My 17 year old son was driving his 2003 Ford Explorer, when he was hit by another vehicle. My son was approaching a stop light and traveling between 3-5 mph….The vehicle that struck him was a company work vehicle. The work truck was pulling out of a parking lot when he hit my son. His estimated speed was also 3-5 mph. There were no injuries at all, and there was no medical treatment sought. This all happened on April 10th 2011. It was found that driver of the work truck was at fault for inattention. Honestly, this guy was super nice and walked my son through the process of calling police etc til I could get there….Now dealing with the Companies insurance carrier has been a headache!!!! here is the basic timeline….Explorer still drivable….Had to wait 10 days for police report….contacted Company that owned work truck, and they forwarded me to their insurance co….Was advised to seek several estimates, and fax them over….Faxed over estimates to adjuster. All estimates exceeded 5k….Stated she would have to contact an adjuster from local area to work this. Local adjuster came out. Estimated damages to be 3300.00. Insurance Company sent me check for 3300.00 and advised me when vehicle repaired, auto shop would need to work with adjuster on any additional repairs and costs. Explorer was in shop 30 days before finally being totaled. Local adjuster was horrible to work with, did not communicate with body shop, etc. I finally contacted the insurance company, and told them I refused to deal wither contracted adjuster etc. Now that the vehicle has been totaled, they don’t want to pay what I think is fair. The insurance company wants to settle for $6928 plus $367 for taxes. Clean retail for the Explorer is $8100. This is for my area. I have been car shopping for 2 days straight. can’t find anything comparable with the money they gave me etc. I have taken off work to deal with this etc, been going on for 2 months plus, and Iam worn out with it all…All I want is for my kid to be back in a safe reliable vehicle. The insurance company did provide a rental car. I had to drive it, my son had to take my car, my other son had bought our car from us, but can’t get it yet, because the other needs it for work school etc….I am so frustrated with the ins ompany
Explorer was totaled due to the way it was hit. The work truck hit it an angle, almost t-boned. He got the back rear door, back quarter panel, and the corner of bumper. That is why the extensive repair costs that caused it to be totaled.
I used nada to get clean retail value. I also used average condition because it is a 2003 model, after all, rarely would any vehicle this age be pristine. I am not looking to get rich, or even turn a dime. I just want to be able to replace it. After several days of car shopping, I am not going to be able to do ot on what they are settling for. I will be looking at paying an additional $1000 plus dollars. I am just frustrated by the ordeal. I just want what is fair, and that will allow me to purchase another vehicle similar to what we had prior to the wreck.

That evening I contact her insurance and put a claim on it, days later the adjuster went to de body shop to provide a estimate. his total was $13k in repair, Progressive than contact me and told me that the at fault party police will only cover up to $10K,so That i will have to file with my insurance and they will surrogate the expenses. My insurance Geico then paid for the repairs, I also send to geico my medical bill from the accident that was about $2.300. I do not have a rental police but progressive gave me a rental and now they send me a bill for claiming that they should not have provide a rental since i later decide to go with my insurance. On top of that I had send a diminished value claim to Progressive for $7K about a week ago and had not hear anything on it.
what should i do now to have the rental charges drop and my diminished value settle./
Today i was contacted by Progressive and they agree to pay the rental so budget call me and told me my balance was $0.00.

Both tickets were given to me at the same time almost 3 years ago. Thats the only 2 tuckets ive ever had. I live in the country as well because i know that matters for a quote. But with this information, what would be a good estimate on how much full coverage insurance would be on this vehicle? Thanjs in advance.

My vehicle was broadsided in a parking lot by a person backing out of their parking space. There wasn’t any visible damage, but after the accident, my vehicle vibrates after the accident.

The other driver’s insurance company sent an appraiser out and the appraiser said $300 damage to the tire and surrounding area was done before the accident. The $300 is below the deductible on my insurance, so I don’t see them becoming too concerned about the appraisers action.

How can I fight this without paying for independent appraisals and legal costs more than the damage to the vehicle? Do insurance companies do this sort of thing just because they know the cost of fighting them will be more than the cost of the repair?
The initial inspection was done at night in the parking lot. In spite of a fairly loud noise and some paint on the rear door (which rubbed off) there was no visible damage. My vehicle is a Mercury Mountaineer while the other vehicle was a small sedan.
The appraisal was done 6 days after the accident. It’s winter here. It snowed at least once during the interim between the accident and appraisal.

I’m trying to make a budget and I need to figure out how much auto insurance is going to cost me. I’m 19-years-old and male and will be driving an old ford ranger that is in horrible exterior condition because the person I bought it from got into several wrecks but still runs fine. I started driving later than most people and will have my license around the end of July. I hope that’s enough info to give me a rough estimate, thanks in advance. I am hoping for something that won’t exceed 100 dollars a month…

i recently put my car in a collision shop and the collision shop says they need new parts for the car and the adjuster doesnt want to write the check. my car is old 2000(integra) and the damage extends through the whole back and onto the side of my car and i believe that the job to repair it would cost more than what the adjuster wrote me the check for. My insurance basically wants to pound out all the metal and bondal everything and just paint over whatever is damages(basically cutting their cost) is there anything i can do about it?i feel that my car deserves more than that i havnt had any accidents and 1 ticket through out my driving life.

    Insurance Company: Farmers Insurance
    Classes Taken: None

I was involved in a minor car accident (not my fault) that caused some cosmetic damage to my car. My insurance company issued me a check (made payable to me) for the estimated cost of the repair minus my deductible. Well before I had a chance to get the car repaired, I got stuck with a major engine repair cost (not related to the accident). My question is – can I spend the insurance money I got on whatever I want (like the engine repair) or do I need to use it only for the body work?

I had a car accident some days ago(not my fault). The guys insurance company will cover all the damage which is a very light damage on my vehicle, maybe some scratches on the passengers side. When the appraisal came to give me an estimate for the damage, I included as much repair value as i could, like my front bumper that was already cracked, the alloys that are already scratched and things like that.Well the appraisal gaveme a $2000 estimate!! I was surprised. Now,my question is… Can I just keep the $2000 dollar check and fix the car my self??? I really only need the paint job done, the rest should be fine….Funny right??

Having been hit more times than I care to have dealt with, each experience teaches me something new. This time, I wanted to use a body shop NOT affiliated with my or the other party’s insurance company, and learned that the repair estimates are so low, some shops will not consider the job worth their time. I also learned that some companies are better to work with than others, (for the body shops, if unforeseen issues arise once the car is taken apart for repair), and that the repairs issued on the estimate may not always be the best for restoring the car to pre- accident condition. Am shopping around for new car insurance, am interested in coverage that PAYS to do the job right, not just a cheap premium.

A stray dog ran out in front of my car causing me some damage. My insurance adjuster writes his own estimate so he told me what the insurance would pay minus my deductible. He said the check would be sent to me, that I can have anyone I want to fix it and to shop around. Does that mean if I can find someone to do it for less I can keep the extra to help me toward my deductible????? even though I need to tell them who is doing it before the check is sent to me. (the check will have both names on it) My friend says if I can get it done for less “that” agreement is between me and who I chose so any extra is mine?????? I don’t want to do anything wrong but I also don’t want to give money away that I don’t have to.
I am just trying to be an informed consumer and not assume it should all go to them. If I am taking my time and gas money to search for a better deal why shouldn’t I choose the more reasonable shop and save as much of the deductible as I can. I am NOT trying to take advantage of anyone….. I am going to have it fixed and I would pay what is asked of me to pay, that’s all I am saying.

They call it “estimated” so does it matter if your slightly over?

If I was way over and made a claim could they refuse to pay it, ie would the insurance be void?

My car was side-swipped and is in the shop for repairs. I gave the body shop the original insurance estimate and they had to call the appraiser back to the car for a supplemental appraisal. I received a written copy of the supplemental estimate and it does not include all of the items that were listed in the first estimate. Does this mean those items will no longer get fixed, or does it mean that only items that are new to the estimate are listed on the supplement?

I was in a car accident that was not my fault. I was hit from behind on the highway and the person who hit me admitted fault 100%. I have submitted a claim through this persons insurance company.

My car was less than 3 months old. I’ve come to terms with diminished value and that it will never be the way it was pre-accident, I’ll never be able to sell it a fair value as it was in an accident, etc. and I’ll just have tp deal with it. (As much as it angers and saddens me!!!)

The insurance adjuster came out today and gave me an estimate which I’m pretty sure is unfair. I’m still need to take it to a few body shops to get theirs estimates of what it will cost to fix it, but I want to be proactive…..

What happens when the three body shops I plan on going to estimate that its going to cost more than what the insurance adjuster wrote me the check for? What are the next steps to appealling this? Is this usually what happens? Write for an unfair amount?

I was in a wreck that the insurance company of the other driver agreed to pay for. They made an estimate and said they will put a check in the mail. They said that if it costs more than the estimate, then they will take care of that also as long as I show the estimate to the repairman.

That seems straightforward… and on the other hand:

With other car issues, auto shops have seemed to be willing to underbid each other. I wouldn’t mind getting it fixed for less than the check that I’m going to receive.

Should I try to get estimates that are independent of the insurance company’s estimate to see if I can save money? If I then go with a shop that says they can do it for cheaper, can I trust that they won’t say it will be more later?

    Ok here is my dilemma:
I got in a car accident about a week ago, the other driver is at fault. I went for the repair estimate to the agent #1, he was ready to write a check for $1500, but I was wondering how much they would pay if they totaled the car, in a couple of days I got a phone call and the agent#2 said that the vehicle is gonna be a total loss and said they would pay $2300 and take the car. I decided to just take the $1500. Agents #1 and #2 directed me to an agent #3, I explained the whole situation to him and he said he would issue $1800 if I want to keep the car BUT I would have to get a salvage title for the vehicle first due to the state law. The state law requires a person to get a salvage title if the repair cost is 75% or more of the vehicle total value. I do not want to get a salvage title for the vehicle and I told him that the original estimate given by the agent #1 was $1500, not $1800 which is less than 75%, to which he responded “I believe we still had some items open when you got that estimate”. he will check it and call me back.

    1. Can I just lower the estimate to original $1500 so I would not have to get a salvage title for the car? Any law that allows me to lower it?
    2. Will the insurance company receive any benefit if they pay me more money but I will have to salvage the car? Why do they wanna do it?

I know it’s a bit impossible (like asking what’s the length of a string) but I am wondering if anyone knows a rough amount , or has experience of how much car insurance would be for a 19 year old – near 20 year old male in the UK. I would be a named driver on one of my parents cars (A vauxhall Corsa 2013), my parents have no points on their license. I would only be using the car when I am back from University so for a maximum of about 3 months a year so not for the full year! I have heard of some people younger than me getting insurance quotes as a named driver for around £700 but I am unsure if this is true.

    a) Are there any insurance websites where you can calculate an estimate for a Named driver? ( I know ones for the main driver)
    b) would it be worth to pay it monthly ?…
    c) any estimates roughly? (an estimate within £200 or so! )

    Thank you !

P.S if anybody magically knows of how much it would be for me to be with an insurance company as a named driver yet still gain no claims bonuses (as many named drivers don’t get no claims) I’ll be extremely grateful!

It would be bought with a loan from a bank, so financed.

What do insurance companys look at, the year and price of the car (the moment you bought it)? If so, I would imagine the two bottom lexus’s to be the cheapest, but Im not sure, since they have much bigger engines. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

i made a claim december 1st as my car was vandelised, after speaking with them and going to places for quotes it was obvious my car would write off, i spoke with my insurance before the end of my policy 18th december it ended, i told them i did not want to carry on with the policy as not only was it higher than the year before i was not driving the car.

since all this no money has been taken out of my acount for the insurance ive had no policy to say i still have insurance but they are now saying that i owe them money as i have not paid for the insurance, i have spoke with them twice now and they are adament i owe them money.

i have not signed anything and they say that the conversation we had where i told them to not carry on my policy was not recorded

mu car has been written off and i am waiting now for settlement,

i have not driven my car since 18th december when i knew insurance was up and also since day one they told me someone will be collecting the car…

so what can i do about this please
thanks for that but i have spoke with them and thats not an issue, they just say they knew nothing of the cacelation..

What are the loopholes for lowering your car insurance? Ie. will putting the car in my parents name lower the insurance? Adding someone else on? Lowering the estimated value? etc.

I know that it depends on a lot of factors but can you estimate how much i would pay for car insurance on a monthly basis

    – I am 18 years old

    – will be driving either a 1999 or 2000 model

    – will be attending college after the summer

    – clear background

    – this will be my first car

    – I live in a very wired and exotic place called MARYLAND

So I was in a car accident recently, pretty minor, but the damage to my car exceed the value of my car by A LOT Damage total $2500. Car 91 integra, not worth 2500 anymore. The damage to the front end is a lot of cosmetic, but there is also frame damage, ac compressor broken, head lamp broken, and bald spots on the tires from me breaking so fast.

First question in an accident were the at party person assumes responsibility of the car and both parties decide to not go through insurance both parties have to come to an agreeable amount right? Seems right, right.

Second- If the party not at fault is not happy with the agreed amount and decided to go through insurance instead, but the damage exceeds the value of the victims car, is the responsible parties insurance going to pay out the amount of the damage done, I got 4 estimates or it the insurance going to pay only the value of the car and salvage my title?

Second, can the responsible party pay out the amount that is agreed upon and then expect to get the victims (my) car in return? Or is his considered extortion? Cause there is no f-in way I the person who is not responsible for the accident can find a reliable car for 1500 bucks, but could part out, or retire my car, sell my car and get more plus the 1500 she agreed upon.

I am afraid that if insurance is involved they are going to total my car out thus costy me hundreds more, then it will be worth nothing and I would not be able to retire it and get money from that or even sell it.

Lastly, this person has no right to ask me for my car right, she caused the accident and is responsible for paying for that damage that she cause one way or another. Please help me figure this out.
Howard was that meant to be useful?
The damage far exceeds the worth of the car.

Can an insurance company for another driver have your vehicle sent in for am estimate prior to determining if they want to accept liability?

More specifically, can they tell you they will accept 80% fault and tell you they will set up the estimate, then after they get the ammount, say they have not decided to accept fault and tell you they need the police report and give you the run around for 2 weeks?

ok i was recently in a car accident , jus a rear end nothing to serious. but the rear of my car is pretty bad. bumper is in bad shape , trunk doesnt open , lights are a bit broken but still work.

a guy from the other person’s insurance company came to take a look at my car and inspect it and estimate damages. he told me that the car will probably be a total loss. he said someone would call me in 2-3 business days to discuss my options.

now i guess i will be paid for what my car is worth , which isnt much prolly no more then a $1000. my question is tho , the guy who came told me that one of my options would be if i wanted to keep the car or not. i want to keep the car , it still runs , it still drives. if i still want to keep my car do i still get paid for the damages?
ive never been in an accident before , so im just unsure about how this works. its the only vechile i got..

so if i dont choose to keep it what happens? do they buy me a new car or what?
ok thanks , thats what i wanted to do. i dont wanna lose the car. but i’d like whatever cash they gave me.

i thought it was an either or scenario. either i keep my car and get nothing , or i take what its worth (which isnt much) and lose the car.

Okay, I’m looking to get a used 350z for my sixteenth birthday. I know car insurance is going to be really high for it being a sport car and for me being only 16, but I’d like an estimate to see where I’m going with this and I’m not sure how to do it myself. 🙂

After auto accident, at fault person’s insurance delaying medical payments and wanting me to sign away all rights and a false statement before they will pay the bills…this is so distressing..
Firstly ‘Thank you ‘ to everyone taking their time to answer.
One false statement the Ins.Co want signed is ‘Doubtful and Dubious case’ and the other is about any future medical treatment we may require, the right to claim for them if they are proved to be related to the accident.
The Ins.Co admits their client at fault but will not accept liability for him…I thought that was what insurance premiums were for?
What concerns me most is the total disregard of compassion in this process .
Not everyone has health insurance and some health insurers will not pay for RTA’s.
It seems to be all about the money doesn’t it? And about clogging up the Health system so hospitals have to wait for payment too, one nasty circle.
We are being bullied and at a time we are most vunerable.
I have the Complaint form from Insurance Commisioners Office. For us it’s not the money it’s the words on the settlement.
I have the Right ..not to sign dishonest statements haven’t I?

Couple month ago, I was in an accident while driving my friend’s car. Police were called, and police report were filed. I didn’t have a car nor auto insurance, so I paid for all the repairs on both car, so insurance company wasn’t involved. If I decide to buy a car and get auto insurance now, will my rate be affected? better yet, should I even tell the insurance company about it? Thanks in advance!

Our jeep was at red light when hit from behind by a sedan. The sedan drove off (hit and run.) However, we were able to get the license plate number and called the police; they came and created a report. Additionally, they actually found the physical license plate in the street, so there was no doubt about which car hit us, and there were witnesses to the accident.

We only have liability coverage – not collision – so our insurance (Geico) won’t cover a rental or any repairs on our car (which is basically totaled.) Geico did contact the other car’s insurance (Allstate) so that we could file a claim.

According to Allstate, the car’s owner is denying knowledge of the accident, and because we didn’t actually see her in the car, they have to investigate further. She says the driver was driving without permission, but as far as we know she didn’t report the car as stolen.

In the meantime, we need a rental; is there any way to press Allstate to make a decision faster or pay out some money now? What can we do if the insurance company refuses to cover anything?

If the car’s owner is in possession of the car still, doesn’t that mean it wasn’t stolen?
Additional question – if the owner’s insurance refuses to cover anything, what should we do at that point? Can we try to sue? Unfortunately, we didn’t see the person driving so I guess it would be difficult to track down the actual driver responsible, though sound sort of sounds like the owner might know who it was, especially if she’s still in possession of the car (i.e., it was borrowed without permission but not necessarily stolen.)

I am french and don’t know anything about auto insurance in the US. I just received my driver license 2 months ago and a very old bettle (1973, value < 1500$) as first car. I never drive before (even in France), I have a clean record.

How work the liability here? Let's say it's not my fault but I crash in a schoolbus and 3 childrens will need medical treatment for the rest of their life because of me. Who will pay for it?
And what if it's my fault?

[ In France, we have something called "civil responsability" that will pay for that. It's automatically included in every car insurance. ]

I am also browsing the net for cheap but good insurance. I want it cheap because the car is worth nothing. But I want it good because i am a young (no experience) driver. Any tips and links to some websites are welcome.

    Thank you very much.

I crashed my car and AAA is telling me the car is going to be totalled because the amount of repairs is > the value of the vehicle.

A “settlement advisor” called me today to offer me $13,000 for my car (2005 PT Cruiser Turbo Limited, fully loaded, Nav system, moonroof, 41000 miles). I owe $15,900 on it still (no gap insurance)….and Kelley Blue Book values it at $16,415, NADA at $15,675 and Edmunds at $15,827. I complained and the advisor said “we use Auto Trader b/c Blue Book is inflated”, but he looked up a similar car (touring edition, much cheaper) and said he could up the quote $600, for a grand total of $13,600. I have to accept/reject within the day (pressure tactics!) or risk losing the offer and having the car valuated.

I just called AAA as a potential insurance buyer and asked how they value cars for pay-out. She told me they use Blue Book dealer retail, which would be AWESOME for me.

Thoughts? Advice? Should I turn down the offer?
Now they’re telling me they haven’t used Kelley Blue Book dealer retail in years… I don’t know what to believe :
    $500 deductible

But I have had an license for more than 3 years but just was not on my parents policy because of high insurance premium.
So my question is what is considered
    1. i need license for 3 years
    2. i need to be on someone else’s policy for 3 years.

How do insurance companies find out about accidents? Like do they know as soon as police show up? Please don’t tell me to just pay for Auto Insurance because of course I know that.

  173. Eleonor June 1, 2014 at 12:43 am Reply

I know this is long but please bear with me.

Rather than set up a separate government run medical insurance or expansion of medicare to the general public….One criticism of government care is that it will be in direct competition with existing providers. Ultimately siphoning insurance customers away from traditional plans and onto the rolls of govt care causing these providers to go out of business.

Here in my state the auto insurance companies MUST offer the same basic minimum coverage in order to do business in the state. Everyone here must have at least the same basic level of insurance (both auto and medical) . You can go to any provider you choose and this basic minimum insurance level costs the same . If you want more insurance you can pay for additional coverage. But that basic plan is available to all.

So why not have a similar program for medical insurance as part of a nation wide group policy. This group can be subsidized by the government but it would be managed by the existing insurance providers. (In other words if you want to be in the insurance business you must offer and support this minimum plan which would be a foundation for any other plan you offer) The govt pays the insurance company a flat rate to manage each person enrolled in the basic plan.
The more money the company saves (the better they manage the insurance) the more money they keep. However if that company provides poor management it will cost them. Either subscribers will change management companies if they feel they are getting a raw deal or wasteful management would not be payed for by the government.

One advantage I see here is that consumers would have an alternative providers to go to if they feel wronged by a particular management company. Insurance providers also have an incentive to offer additional services to the basic plan members in order to attract more subscribers and earn money.

With a govt program like medicare your stuck with the one provider (the governement).

As they say One Choice is NO Choice….

If someone wants additional insurance they can buy additional coverage from any provider they choose. But No one could be denied coverage for the standardized basic plan. Since everyone is part of this national group policy the basic insurance is portable and independent of supplemental policy one may have. So if you change jobs or move to a different state you may loose the supplemental policy BUT your basic coverage remains intact. You merely transfer the company that provides the management services for the basic medical.

Insurance providers would get paid by the fed to manage the participants in the basic plan for each participant in the basic plan. this would put market forces into play for the insurance providers to make money by attracting additional participants through better service or offerings. COunter to this is if the consumer gets crappy management services they can transfer to any other insurance provider.

We’ve been with Allstate for home and auto insurance for over 30 years, and they have recently starting screwing with us about renewing out Homeowner’s insurance. We’re pretty sure they are nitpicking about things because they are not writing new policies for Californians, but are keeping existing customers for now.

Anyway, I went to the Auto Club this morning and got quotes from them for Home and Auto Insurance and their prices are much better than Allstate’s.

What I want to know is anyone’s experience with AAA insurance. Are they a good company to insure with, any problems, etc? Thank you for any information you can provide.

My current auto insurance is ending next month and the renewal form just came in. Coincidently, I was offered a better deal from another auto insurance that was less than half of what I currently am paying. I called and check and it was the same coverage.

My question is that do I need to let them know that I will not renew my current auto insurance with them? This is my first time planning on switching and I would like to know if there is any penalties or anything in general I should worry about.

…and, that if you wanted to stay with them, you will have to pay more money for a new policy, would your answer be….

“It’s my state Governor’s fault, because she (or he) is forcing me to have auto insurance that has minimum requirements!”

    or, would it be:

“Hey, no problem. I am going to go and shop with different companies, that offer a better plan, that costs less”?
